CAHB Update

The CAHB 2025 Board of Directors met for final time last week. The Government Affairs Committee and Political Funding Committee met as well. Here is a short recap of those meetings:

  • Political Funding Committee (PFC) – Senators Lindsey Daugherty and Kyle Mullica presented on the recently formed Colorado Opportunity Caucus and answered questions. The Caucus formed to focus on pragmatic solutions to the issues that matter to Colorado families — the kitchen-table concerns that affect paychecks, livelihoods and futures. From housing affordability to high-quality jobs, better schools and strengthening local economies. The committee also discussed the gubernatorial race and which candidates to consider supporting ahead of the primary election. The PFC will continue to closely follow all statewide elections and plan to meet again at least once more before the end of this year.

o Thank you to 2025 PFC Chair Jeff Schneider for your leadership!

  • Government Affairs Committee (GAC) – The state’s wildfire and energy codes were reviewed. The Wildfire Resiliency Code implementation date is April 1, 2026. Local Governments will be forced to begin imposing the state energy code beginning July 1, 2026 when they update any of their other building codes. The committee also discussed potential bills expected in the 2026 legislative session and noted that it is eerily quiet for this time of year. The 2026 CAHB draft Legislative Action Plan was presented and GAC members were asked to take the draft back to their local associations to inform our 2026 plan. The plan will be adopted by the CAHB Board after the first of the year.

o Thank you to 2025 Chair Grace Covington for your leadership!

  • Board of Directors (BOD) – The official call for nominations to the 2026 BOD, PFC, and GAC was made. If you are interested in serving on the CAHB board or one of the committees, please contact your local Executive Officer. The board also reviewed the third quarter financials and began a preliminary 2026 budget discussion. The first meeting of the 2026 Board of Directions will be at the CAHB offices in January. Members will be notified once a date has been finalized.

o Thank you to 2025 President Randy Whetzell for your leadership! A special shoutout to you and your team for hosting our summer meetings in Palisade this summer.

SAVE THE DATE – The BJ4C Legislative reception will be on February 12, 2026. Location TBD

Local Update

I am wrapping up another successful year of traveling around the state visiting with members at each of our local associations. When I went back to look at pictures, I realized I was missing one from more than half of my appearances! If you happen to have one, please send it my way. I was also able to attend several meetings online and present virtually. While looking to improve on my presentation I created a visual aid this year. It is something that can easily be shared over zoom as well so keep that in mind and please don’t hesitate to reach out!
